Little Bit V3 to RTR Installation Instructions
These instructions are meant to serve as a guide for installing the Little Bit V3 controller into the ETM RTR. Please be sure to check your kit thoroughly for any referenced parts throughout the build process. These instructions assume a reasonable level of mechanical aptitude from the reader, and best practices for any mechanical/electrical assembly should be observed. It is recommended to apply medium strength thread locker (generally blue) to all fasteners unless otherwise noted.
- Remove the seat, then disconnect and remove the battery from the bike. Once the battery has been removed, turn the key switch on for a few seconds. The display will light up momentarily then quickly lose power, this indicates that any leftover charge stored in the controller has been dissipated and it is now safe to handle.
- Remove the controller cover as shown by pulling back firmly on the top of the cover, then disconnect all connections from the controller and remove all motor and battery leads. Disconnect all connections from the harness and remove it from the bike, the section removed should look like the harness shown below (this can be set aside as it will not be re-used).
- Remove the throttle from the bike by feeding the 5-pin connector through the left side of the frame (it may be helpful to remove the left side shroud and frame cover from the bike) and removing any cable ties holding it in place. Remove the throttle from the bike by loosening the screw indicated until the assembly is free, then slide the throttle off of the handlebar.
- If installing a new motor, remove the old motor from the bike at this time by removing the four M8 motor bolts holding the motor onto the swingarm. Support the motor while removing the bolts, then slide it down and out of the swingarm.
Note: Take note of how the phase wires are routed into the frame, it may be helpful to take a few quick photos to reference later when installing the new motor.
- Remove the motor mounts from the old motor and reinstall on the new motor. Note that the mounts must be oriented as shown below. Once the mounts have been transferred to the new motor, reinstall the new motor into the swingarm and route the phase wires along the same pathway as before.
- Apply a thin layer of thermal paste to the back side of the controller as shown, then bolt the controller to the controller mount using four M6x16mm button head screws.
Note: The controller must be oriented on the mount as shown in the image below.
- If installing the controller on an RTR Lite (this step does not apply for the standard RTR model), remove the skid plate, then remove the original controller mounting bracket from the frame by removing the screws indicated below. Replace the original bracket with the new one included in the kit using the same hardware, then reinstall the skid plate.
- Install the new controller onto the frame using four M6x16mm button head screws. The two holes with counterbores must be oriented toward the top, while the two holes with an overhang feature must be oriented toward the bottom so that the controller mount sits flat against the frame.
- Connect the Hall Sensor adapter to the large white plug on the controller harness as shown, then plug the other side into the 6-pin connector running from the motor.
- Install the new throttle onto the handlebars, then run the throttle wire along the same route as the stock throttle. Ensure that there is enough slack in the wire such that the handlebars can be turned completely in both directions without any strain on the wire.
- Install the mode switch onto the left side of the handlebars. Route the wires along the same route as the throttle, again ensuring that the handlebars can be turned completely in both directions without any strain on the wire.
- Connect the motor phase wires and battery leads to the controller as shown below.
Note: do not use thread locker on these fasteners
| Terminal | Connection |
| + | Red Battery Lead |
| - | Black Battery Lead |
| Y | Yellow Motor Lead |
| G | Green Motor Lead |
| B | Blue Motor Lead |
- To help with wire routing through the controller cover it may be helpful to cut and remove the center section between the two clips as shown. This will create a pathway for the wires and battery leads to run straight up from the controller.
- Route the battery leads and wiring harness through the opening in the controller cover as shown, then snap the controller cover into place. Take your time during this step and be sure to route all wires such that they are not being pinched or crushed by the cover.
- Connect the throttle, display, and map switch to the matching connectors on the controller harness. Each connector will only plug into one matching connector on the controller harness, with the exception of the throttle which has two potential mating connectors. The correct connector will either be unlabeled or labeled “Throttle”, while the incorrect connector will be labeled “Do not use”.
- Reinstall the battery into the bike and connect the black battery lead connector and yellow charge port connector.
- Download the TruMoto phone app, then power on the bike. Open the app and select your controller, then follow the prompts to select your appropriate battery and application options. Once this is complete, save your settings.
- Installation is now complete, and the bike is now ready for a test ride.
