My powertrain kit is not powering on

๐Ÿ”Œ 1. Check All Connections

  • Ensure all connectors (battery to controller, controller to motor, throttle, display, etc.) are fully plugged in and correctly oriented.
  • Look for bent pins, loose terminals, or reversed polarity.
  • DO NOT disconnect and reconnect the battery, should there be an internal short within the controller, this will lead to an unsafe event

๐Ÿ”‹ 2. Verify Battery Voltage

  • Use a multimeter to check the battery output voltage.
  • Make sure it matches your system (e.g., a 72V system should read around ~84V fully charged).
  • Has the battery been connected to a charger? If not, the BMS (Battery Management System) may be asleep and needs to be connected to a charger to wake up and allow power output.
  • If the voltage is below the controllerโ€™s low-voltage cutoff, the system wonโ€™t turn on.

๐Ÿ”ง 3. Confirm Controller Power-Up

  • Does the controller make any noise, light up or show signs of activity?
  • Is there a voltage displayed on the voltmeter when turned on?

๐Ÿง  4. Check for Error Codes or Blinking LEDs

  • TruMoto Controllers may display an error message on the HUD
  • A Votol controller would have a blinking light pattern of two flash pattern
  • Kelly Controllers will have a beeping sequence of two patterns

๐Ÿ”„ 5. Swap Components (if available)

  • If possible, swap in a known-working battery, controller, or throttle to isolate the issue.
  • This is especially useful if you suspect one component is DOA.

๐Ÿ”ฅ 6. Check for Short Circuits or Heat

  • If something gets hot quickly or sparks, stop immediately.
  • Inspect for pinched wires, exposed leads, or wrong connections.

๐Ÿ†˜ 7. Contact Support

  • If all else fails, take clear photos of your setup and wiring or capture a short video of your concern, and email them with a description of the issue including any information you discovered during your inspections and submit a ticket HERE.
