How Should I Upgrade My ETM RTR Sport?

Your ETM RTR Sport already comes equipped with a capable 72V powertrain, Revolver Sport motor, 420 chain drive, improved brakes, and adjustable suspension. The best upgrades depend on whether you want more power, additional range, better street handling, improved comfort, or a more competition-focused chassis.

If your main goal is performance, start with the same three components covered in our guide, “I want to upgrade my bike, where do I start?”:

1. Battery
2. Controller
3. Motor

These components work together. Before replacing anything, decide what you want your bike to do better and upgrade only the components currently limiting that goal.

1. Decide Whether You Need a Battery Upgrade

Your RTR Sport comes with a 72V 25Ah hot-swappable battery, so you do not need to complete a voltage conversion.

The stock battery is a good starting point for most riders. Consider the RTR Upgrade Battery if you want increased capacity, extended range, or additional power capability for a modified powertrain. Available configurations allow you to expand your RTR Sport up to 72v 35ah or 72V 45Ah.

For faster charging, you can use the EMX® 72V 12A Charger. Always select a charger that matches your battery’s voltage, connector, and supported charge rate.

2. Start With a Controller Upgrade

Your RTR Sport comes with the Revolver Sport 65H IPM motor and a 420 chain drivetrain. The stock Revolver Sport motor is compatible with the ETM RTR 13kW TruMoto 6+7 Mod Powertrain Kit.

Because your stock motor is already compatible, you can purchase the controller portion of the 6+7 kit without replacing the motor. This is the most affordable way to increase the performance of your RTR Sport.

The High Torque Mod Motor and High Speed Mod Motor are not upgrades for the RTR Sport. Do not select either of these motors for your bike.

When increasing your controller’s output, make sure your battery can safely provide the required current. Your controller tune should also remain within the operating limits of the stock Revolver Sport motor.

3. Upgrade to the Revolver Alpha Motor

The RTR Revolver Alpha Motor is the recommended motor upgrade for your RTR Sport.

The Revolver Alpha’s primary advantage is its higher temperature ceiling. This allows you to run more power for longer before motor temperature becomes the limiting factor. It is the best option if you regularly ride at higher power levels or want greater sustained performance from a 6+7 build.

Your RTR Sport already comes with a 420 chain and sprocket system, so you do not need a complete 420 chain conversion when installing the Revolver Alpha. Select the RTR Sport-compatible motor configuration and confirm the required sprocket and installation components before ordering.

4. Choose Wheels for Your Riding Style

Your stock RTR Sport uses a 14-inch front and 12-inch rear off-road wheel configuration. Changing the wheels can transform how your bike feels on pavement and hard-packed surfaces.

For agile street riding

The ETM RTR 12in Mag Wheel Set gives your bike a clean street-focused setup with quick, responsive handling and a distinctive custom appearance.

For maximum street grip

The ETM RTR 12in Supermoto Wheel Set is a strong choice if you primarily ride on pavement or want better cornering and supermoto-style handling. Its smaller-diameter setup keeps your bike light and agile.

For a taller street setup

The ETM RTR 14in Street Wheel Set gives you a larger wheel diameter and a taller overall riding position.

Wheel diameter affects your bike’s ride height, gearing, acceleration, handling, and clearance. Confirm compatibility with your 420 drivetrain, sprocket, brakes, and suspension before ordering.

5. Add Lighting and Accessories

Lighting upgrades are an easy way to improve visibility and personalize your RTR Sport.

Recommended options include:

• The ETM RTR Headlight Kit for improved forward lighting.
• The Bluetooth RGB UnderGlow Kit for customizable accent lighting.

The underglow kit is a 12V accessory. Make sure your bike has a compatible 12V accessory power source before installation.

6. Improve Rider Comfort

You can adjust your RTR Sport’s riding position to create additional room and comfort, especially if you are a taller rider.

The E&C Pit Bike High Bars create a taller cockpit and a more upright riding position.

Pair them with the RTR Tall Seat for additional seat height and more room between the seat and foot pegs.

These upgrades can also make it easier to transition between sitting and standing while riding trails.

7. Upgrade the Brakes

Your RTR Sport comes with an improved front and rear braking system. If you are riding with the stock powertrain, you may find that the original brakes provide all the braking performance you need.

If you have modified your bike, ride aggressively, or want additional braking force, we recommend the RTR 4 Piston Brake Upgrade Kit.

A brake upgrade becomes especially important when you increase power, top speed, bike weight, or available traction. Complete your brake upgrade before fully using the additional performance of a modified powertrain.

8. Fine-Tune the Suspension

Your RTR Sport already includes 48mm dual-adjustable front forks and an adjustable rear shock. Begin by correctly setting your stock suspension for your weight, terrain, and riding style before replacing any components.

Your stock RTR Sport forks are compatible with the ETM RTR Mod Fork Springs. These springs are the recommended option if you want to change the support and feel of your front suspension.

The ETM RTR “Oil Slick” Forks perform the same as your stock RTR Sport forks. Choose them as an aesthetic upgrade rather than a performance upgrade.

Rear-suspension options include:

• ETM RTR Upgrade Shock — OEM Ride Height
• ETM RTR Reservoir Upgrade Shock — OEM Ride Height
• ETM RTR Race Reservoir Upgrade Shock

OEM ride-height options preserve your bike’s standard geometry. Race-length options may alter its ride height and handling.

Suspension compatibility can vary by model year, shock length, rider weight, and desired ride height. Verify that your selected spring or rear-shock configuration is compatible with the ETM RTR Sport before ordering.

Recommended Upgrade Order

For a balanced ETM RTR Sport build, we recommend upgrading in this order:

1. Set up and adjust your stock suspension for your weight and terrain.
2. Add the RTR 4 Piston Brake Upgrade Kit if you plan to increase power or ride aggressively.
3. Add the controller portion of the 6+7 Mod Powertrain Kit while retaining your stock Revolver Sport motor.
4. Upgrade to the Revolver Alpha Motor if you need a higher temperature ceiling and more sustained power.
5. Choose a 12in Mag, 12in Supermoto, or 14in Street wheel set if you want a street-focused setup.
6. Add the High Bars and Tall Seat if you need more cockpit room.
7. Add the Headlight and RGB Underglow.
8. Upgrade to the RTR Upgrade Battery if you need more range or additional power capability.
9. Install the ETM RTR Mod Fork Springs or a compatible rear shock if your stock suspension no longer meets your needs.

Unlike the RTR Lite, your RTR Sport does not need an immediate battery, motor, chain, brake, or fork upgrade to be a capable bike. The controller-only 6+7 configuration is the most cost-effective initial power upgrade because it works with your stock Revolver Sport motor.

The Revolver Alpha is the next step if you need a higher temperature ceiling and want to run more power for longer periods.

Before ordering, confirm your bike’s model year, battery capacity, wheel size, desired ride height, motor configuration, 420 sprocket selection, and intended riding style. These details determine which combinations are compatible with your ETM RTR Sport.
